Polesine White Garlic: A Cure-All

The aromatic bulb is one of the traditional farming products in the Polesine area, in the province of Rovigo, where garlic production has a century-old history and is strictly regulated every step of the way.

Garlic is farmed quite extensively in the Polesine area, in the province of Rovigo. The production of the Polesine White Garlic is strictly regulated, from soil the sale. The shape of the bulb is firm and regular. It has a sparkling white colour and a pleasant smell, not pungent at all, and last but not least it lasts a very long time. It was awarded a Protected Designation of Origin (DOP) in 2010. The same year, the Consortium for the Protection of the Polesine White Garlic was created. The Consortium cooperates with the farmers and packagers who intend to subscribe to the DOP production guidelines. The Consortium is also active in the promotion of innovative farming techniques.
